July 2011 - From The Basement | iainmixedit
Finally got round to uploading this mix that I did back in July. It’s one of my better ones :-)

It’s been over a year since I last sat down and put a mix together. Sorry it’s taken so long. I guess that’s what babies and moving 1/2 way round the world do for you.
It’s April, which makes me thing of long weekend parties that I don’t get to go to.
The mixing is a little ropey, sorry, I’m out of practice :-)

You can download the mix from here in enhanced podcast format (right click - save as). This will give the best results on iPods and iTunes (you’ll get all the track names and artwork, etc.)
If you don’t like iPods or iTunes and want a plain old MP3 you can get one of those from here.
And you should be able to get it through iTunes here.
Or here it is in fancy SoundCloud embedded format here:

Well the loft is closed. It’s been tidied up and cleared out. And I’ve been reduced to making mixes on the train between home and work.
I’m not sure it’s the train’s fault but I’m really happy with how this one’s turned out.

This is not a mix featuring Christmassy tracks. It just so happens that I’ve got round to finishing it a week before Christmas. Also, they say that Christmas is a time for miracles, and the fact I’ve finished this at all is a miracle. Our two bundles of joy aren’t exactly mix-friendly, yet.
Have a great Christmas and New Year! xxx

I started this mix as a father of none. I wasn’t intending to dedicate it to my new daughters. They weren’t supposed to be here until the end of October. But it now feels like I should. Especially as it was put together as Sophie, unbeknown to either of us, went into the early stages of labour.
Eleanor and Josie were born 12 weeks premature and are naturally very tiny. They’re still in hospital as I write this but they’re getting stronger every day. The mix was finished off two weeks later. And I am now the father of two amazing little girls.
Girls, this is for you x

Note: It’s a bit less 4/4 than normal…

As always, I’m sorry it’s been ages.
Anyway I went up to the loft, opened the skylights, and this popped out. It’s perhaps got a bit more of a old fashioned house feeling in places than normal. But I think in general the sound works OK. And the Apparat remix at the end is stunning (as usual).
Buy tracks from Beatport.com - I do.

Sorry it’s been a while.
This was done at the weekend when it was nice and sunny outside. I popped open the skylights and the first fresh air of the year entered the loft…
I’m not sure exactly where this mix fits in the world. I’d like to think I could pull off a morning slot on a sunny terrace somewhere, but I think they’re becoming increasingly the kind of mixes that only elderly folk will like ;-)

Well this mix was recorded when it was so cold in the loft that my fingers were numb. Hopefully it hasn’t led to it being a crock of crap.
Actually I think I’m pretty chuffed with how it turned out. It’s quite chugging and if I had to pick another word, perhaps brooding. Deep and dark brain music…

I’ve never been one for giving pretentious names to mixes. Until now.
Apricity is such a great word, it means: the warmth of the sun in winter. And that’s the sound I was trying to create in this mix. Something that’ll make a chilly walk to work just a little bit warmer.

Enjoy, and thanks to Russell for the word.
