April in the Basement - April 2011
It’s been over a year since I last sat down and put a mix together. Sorry it’s taken so long. I guess that’s what babies and moving 1/2 way round the world do for you. It’s April, which makes me thing of long weekend parties that I don’t get to go to. The mixing is a little ropey, sorry, I’m out of practice :-) Tracklist: Utopia - Ewan Pearsons The Tale Of...

Made on the Train - Feb2010
Well the loft is closed. It’s been tidied up and cleared out. And I’ve been reduced to making mixes on the train between home and work. I’m not sure it’s the train’s fault but I’m really happy with how this one’s turned out. Tracklist: Two Dots (Pezzner Remix) - Lusine Love Cry (Joy Orbison Remix) - Four Tet Love, Liptease & 808 - Krystian...

Cranked Out For Christmas - December 09
This is not a mix featuring Christmassy tracks. It just so happens that I’ve got round to finishing it a week before Christmas. Also, they say that Christmas is a time for miracles, and the fact I’ve finished this at all is a miracle. Our two bundles of joy aren’t exactly mix-friendly, yet. Have a great Christmas and New Year! xxx Tracklist: Chrome’s On It (Gold Panda...

For Eleanor and Josie - August 2009
I started this mix as a father of none. I wasn’t intending to dedicate it to my new daughters. They weren’t supposed to be here until the end of October. But it now feels like I should. Especially as it was put together as Sophie, unbeknown to either of us, went into the early stages of labour. Eleanor and Josie were born 12 weeks premature and are naturally very tiny. They’re...

July 09 - Both Skylights Open
As always, I’m sorry it’s been ages. Anyway I went up to the loft, opened the skylights, and this popped out. It’s perhaps got a bit more of a old fashioned house feeling in places than normal. But I think in general the sound works OK. And the Apparat remix at the end is stunning (as usual). Buy tracks from Beatport.com - I do. Tracklist: Listen To The Drums (Jazzanova /...

Easter 09 Mix
Sorry it’s been a while. This was done at the weekend when it was nice and sunny outside. I popped open the skylights and the first fresh air of the year entered the loft… I’m not sure exactly where this mix fits in the world. I’d like to think I could pull off a morning slot on a sunny terrace somewhere, but I think they’re becoming increasingly the kind of mixes...

February 2009 - I Can't Feel My Fingers
Well this mix was recorded when it was so cold in the loft that my fingers were numb. Hopefully it hasn’t led to it being a crock of crap. Actually I think I’m pretty chuffed with how it turned out. It’s quite chugging and if I had to pick another word, perhaps brooding. Deep and dark brain music… Tracklist: You Don’t Answer (When I Call) - Mr. White ...

January 2009 - Apricity
I’ve never been one for giving pretentious names to mixes. Until now. Apricity is such a great word, it means: the warmth of the sun in winter. And that’s the sound I was trying to create in this mix. Something that’ll make a chilly walk to work just a little bit warmer. Tracklist: The Model - Overproof Sound System Flashback (Jazzanova’s Breathe Easy Mix) - Fat...

Tracklist and things are coming soon. But I’ve been sitting on this for a while as it is. Didn’t want to keep it going stale any longer…

Credit Crunch Minimix
An impromptu mix on a mission. I was walking round the city thinking about the gloomy outlook. When. Bosh. Straight in my earhole. A shaft of feel-good music entered. And you know what, for a moment, I felt good. So I figured I’d try daubing a 30 minute wad of feel-goodness onto the internet to see what sticks. Smornin - DJ Koze Little bit of feel good - Jamie Lidell Can’t Stop...

If We Only Had a Summer
September 2008 - Longing for the outdoors. In my head I was mixing for here: A small outdoor stage at a nice laid-back festival. The sun is going down. People are varying from rosy-cheeked to costa-del-sol-holidaymaker-red. There’s been a few flagons of cider tucked away. But people are about ready for some action… In reality I was in Brighton, it was raining, again. ...

Big Summer Monsters Rock the Loft
August 2008 - Trapped in the loft with no sign of summer. In my head I was mixing for here: Space, Ibiza. 6pm Sunday evening. I’m happy to clear the dancefloor with a slow opener. I need to draw a line between me and the guy beforehand (he wasn’t all that). In reality I was in Brighton, it was raining. More banging than I’d normally go. Not too much. Just a bit of up-for-it-ness in...
